Maronite Saints

Abouna Yaacoub

Abouna Yaacoub Al-Kapuchini (1875–1954), born Khalil Gharios Haddad in Ghazir, Lebanon, was a Capuchin Franciscan priest devoted to serving the poor and the sick.

He founded numerous charitable institutions including orphanages, schools, and hospitals throughout Lebanon. His life was marked by an unwavering commitment to the most vulnerable members of society, and he became known as the “Father of the Poor.”

His cause for canonization has been opened, and he was declared Venerable. He is deeply loved by the Maronite faithful for his selfless dedication to charity and the Gospel.
